Designed to protect our neighbors and environment
We believe industrial leadership and environmental stewardship go hand in hand. This will be built using EGA's latest-generation technology to improve efficiency, reduce energy use, and incorporate multiple layers of environmental protection. Designed to be among the safest and most advanced aluminum production facilities in the world, it will use proven technology to protect the community and the environment.
- Catching it at the source: Our production units are fully enclosed with built-in ventilation hoods that capture dust and gases right where they are made, preventing them from being released into the air.
- Recycling fluoride: Fluoride is an essential, and expensive, part of making aluminum. This facility will use advanced technology to capture and recycle about 99% of the fluoride used in production, returning it to the smelting process – not only keeping the emissions very low - but also reducing the cost of making aluminum. This reduces emissions, minimizes waste and lowers the need for new raw materials. Fluoride emissions are regulated by the EPA and monitored through permits issued by the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to ensure that the plant is safe.
- Advanced air cleaners: Think of this as a giant, high-efficiency home air filter. It thoroughly scrubs and cleans any exhaust before it leaves the facility.
- 24/7 air monitoring: High-tech, automated systems track air quality around the clock, ensuring we always stay well within strict U.S. safety standards.
- Dust-free storage and handling: All raw materials are kept in sealed silos and moved through covered conveyor belts so no dust escapes the plant.
Look inside an aluminum production facility
The facility will be regulated by the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), with rigorous permitting, ongoing oversight and opportunities for public input throughout the process. The EPA has established emission limits, which were created based on rigorous scientific review of aluminum operations, and are designed to protect people, livestock, crops and surrounding ecosystems.
